Corfu olive trees
The cultivation of the holy olive tree dominates all around island, transforming it in an immense and continuous olive grove. There are estimated to be well over three million olive trees being cultivated, covering roughly a third of the Island.
Venetians rulers introduced large scale olive tree planting to Corfu starting in 1565 to replace vineyards. Some old olive trees may be centuries old.
Olives are harvested during the winter - First, the grass below the trees is cut. Then, the ground is covered with wide stripes of black plastic net. Over time, the olives fall onto the net and people sweep them for storage. Most of the times we lop the top and cut part of the olive trees, so they can grow faster and have better oil quality. The wood from this procedure is the one we select to make our pens.
Our store
You can find our wood store at the 14 km of the Ethikis Corfu - Paleokastritsa road. We established our family olive wood workshop in 1994 and since then we produce also handcraft wooden executive gifts. The age of the olive woods that we are working is 300-400 years old.
Procedure of making the pens and the other handcraft wooded products.
After we collect the olive trees wood we store it in a dark place for about 4 years, until the wood its complete dry. Its then we start to work and handcraft our products. In this way we can 100% guarantee that all our products will last for ever.
Our olive wood pens
All our pens are made of solid piece of olive wood trees at least 300 years old, very dry and with magnificent colours. We apply in all our pens two coats of Renaissance wax to both protect the pen from moisture and prevent finger prints. Also 3 different types of special varnish, and finally we give it the final polish. Normally we need more then 5 hours to make a unique pen. Your pen…
